Professor Henk Dekker is professor of Political Socialization and Integration at the Graduate School of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences of Leiden University and associate professor of Political Science at the department of Political Science of Leiden University. He also serves as director of education of the Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences of Leiden University, co-director of the Political Psychology Standing Group of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), member of the Advisory Committee for the Civics and Citizenship Education Research project of the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA), and as member of the external panel for the assessment of the university master teacher training programs for the Quality Assurance Netherlands Universities (QANU).
He occupied the endowed chair for the Social-Scientific Study of the Germany-Netherlands Relations at Utrecht University (1998-2008) and served as director of the European Research Centre on Migration and Ethnic Relations – ERCOMER – of Utrecht University (2002-2008). In 2006, he received the Nevitt Sanford Award from the International Society of Political Psychology. He teaches various introductory and specialized Political Psychology courses. His research themes are nationalism; attitudes towards foreign countries; attitudes towards ethnic minorities, including Islamophobia; voting behaviour; political cynicism; and political socialization.
