Michael Savelkoul

Profile

Michael Savelkoul obtained a master’s degree in Social Cultural Science at the Radboud University Nijmegen. His master thesis focused on cross-national measurement equivalence of anti-Muslim attitudes as well as explanations of anti-Muslim attitudes in the Netherlands. He is currently working on his PhD project “Ethnic Diversity in Local Communities. Its Relationship with Solidarity with the In-Group and Exclusionism of Out-Groups”, which is part of a larger project granted by NWO. This PhD project aims at explaining relationships between ethnic diversity in (local) communities and solidarity with the (majority) in-group as well as exclusion of (minority) out-groups, by focusing on the influence of inter-ethnic contacts and perceptions of ethnic threat. Moreover, conditions which might affect these relationships, both at the individual and the contextual level, will be addressed.
