Introduction
Member of ICS research line: Migration and Social Stratification My dissertation deals with ethnic discrimination in the labour market. I study to what extent ethnic minority job applicants are discriminated against and which features of applicants, employers and the context are related to the degree to which such discrimination occurs. For example, this project investigates to what extent employers' interethnic attitudes (explicit and implicit) affect their likelihood of discriminating against minority job applicants. Also, I examine whether the degree to which discrimination occurs varies across regions and whether variations are related to the economic circumstances and the presence of ethnic minority groups within regions.
For my research I have collected data via field and laboratory experiments (vignettes), questionnaires and Implicit Association Tests. Among other things, I developed and applied a new approach to field experiments, using applicant profiles on online resume databases. Links
